Allen Robert Louquet, Jr.
Allen Robert Louquet, Jr., 64, passed away suddenly in his sleep at his Upper Hanover Twp. home Thursday, November 6, 2014.
A graduate of North Penn High School, Allen served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973, attending radioman school at the Naval Reserve Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland before spending the rest of his tour at the US NAVCOMMSTA (Naval Communications Station) in Rota, Spain. After his naval service, he attended Montgomery County Community College, earning an Associates Degree. From there, Al became a welder (like his father) before settling into the career he would follow the rest of his life: carpentry and woodworking. He worked for several companies as a carpenter and later foreman, then became a skilled cabinetmaker before starting the home improvement business he ran the rest of his life.
An environmentalist and political activist, Al never shied away from protesting what he found wrong, sometimes at his peril. His love of books, music, theater and film made him "a walking, talking encyclopedia," and a "true Renaissance Man," able to converse on innumerable subjects. Beyond his vast array of knowledge, was his willingness to share it and his skills with anyone who asked; he was a teacher and mentor in the best sense of the words. If one thing could be said about Al Louquet, it's that he was always ready to help anyone with whatever he had; always ready to do whatever he could. His loss will be truly felt by many.
Preceded in death by his Father, Allen Robert Louquet, Sr., Allen is survived by his mother, June M. Louquet (Lansdale, PA); daughters, Emily Louquet (Avondale, PA) and Jennifer Woodring-Shea (and husband Christopher Shea of Collingswood, NJ); grandchildren, Norah and Lincoln; sisters, Connie Horton (Lansdale) and Sharon L. Lukens (and husband David Lukens of North Wales, PA); nephews: Ike Horton (Ambler, PA), Robert C. Lukens (Lansdale), Christopher Lukens (North Wales); niece, Kimberly Lindaberry (Quakertown, PA); and host of loving family and friends too numerous to mention.
The family asks for no flowers. Friends and relatives may greet Al's family Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 3-4pm at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale, PA 19446. A Celebration of Al's Life will follow at 4pm.
