Grand View Hospital has been named one of America's "Most Wired" hospitals for a fourth consecutive year, according to the results in the 2014 Most Wired Survey in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks (H&HN) magazine.
The survey found that the nation's Most Wired hospitals are doing tremendous work to enhance their IT systems in ways that support the improvement of care, delivery and patient engagement goals.
"We are excited to again be recognized for our dedication to improving health information technology for our patients and staff," said Jane Loveless, vice president and chief information officer at Grand View Hospital. "Our ongoing attention to technology continues to improve patient outcomes and experiences. Our systems not only provide our medical staff immediate access to centralized patient information but also allow our patients to more actively access their medical information, creating a more open flow of healthcare communication."
Grand View continues to build on its established infrastructure goals for health information technology. In addition to its electronic medical record (EMR) system for clinical staff, Grand View recently expanded its technology to include patient use. The MyGVH.org patient portal, an internet-based service, allows patients to be more involved in their own care by making appointments, getting prescriptions refilled, viewing X-ray and lab results and getting discharge information through communications with Grand View and affiliated physician offices.
"The Most Wired data show that shared health information allows clinicians and patients to have the information they need to promote health and make the most informed decisions about treatments," said Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association.
Healthcare's Most Wired Survey, conducted between January 15 and March 15, asked hospitals and health systems nationwide to answer questions regarding their IT initiatives. Respondents completed 680 surveys, representing 1,900 hospitals, or more than 30 percent of all U.S. hospitals.
