The Upper Perkiomen Youth Cheerleaders finished their competition season strong last month, winning several trophies.
This year, UP Youth Cheerleaders for the Mohawks' football and Braves' wrestling teams were combined to make two cheering competition teams.
The first squad – coached by Sharon, Heather and Jenn – included Adrianna Adamoli, Adriana McKellar, Ashlee Schafer, Ava Frantz, Ashley Kulp, Julianna Schwab, Kaley Toscani, Lily Landis, Madylin Frantz, Makena Rhodes, Nylah Hayes and Peyton Rielli. The squad practiced at St. Mark's Church and Hereford Elementary during the season.
The second squad was coached by Janet and Sandra; some mothers and other coaches also helped coach the girls. This group practiced at Marlborough Elementary and Hereford Elementary. The squad included Alyana Waktins, Alexis Noble, Ashley Hawkins, Ashley Noble, Erin Ewing, Felicia Shoup, Haley Lear, Jadyn Selfinger, Jaylynn Rompilla, Jenna Heil, Kyleigh Danasko, Jordan Leister, Kaidyn Frankenfield, Lauren Gonzalez, Leah Molyneaux, Mara Madison Hetrick, Mara Maginnis, Sabrienna Black and Tasha Morrison.
The teams traveled to a competition at Lansdale Catholic in February; both teams placed before moving onto a competition at Pope John Paul II, where they both placed again. The final competition was at Delaware Valley College on March 8. The first and second squads did very well and came home with placing trophies in that competition, too.
This year four cheerleaders who have completed the program will be moving on to try-outs for middle school: Felicia Shoup, Kyleigh Danasko, Jordan Leister and Lauren Gonzalez.
Sign-ups for cheering will be taking place shortly. Watch for fliers sent home from school as well as signs around town and an article with dates in the Town and Country. There will be different programs, such as wrestling cheer, football cheer or a combination of both.
There will be a walk-in cheering and football registration this Saturday, April 5, at opening day baseball under the pavilion from 12-3 p.m. For more information email Pam Byers at dbyers12@comcast.net for cheering and send email to upmohawks@gmail.com for football.
The UP Youth Cheerleaders and coaches would like to thank St. Mark's Church and Marlborough and Hereford schools for opening their facilities to holding the practices there.
