Graham William Rutherford, 50 years old, of Pottstown died Sunday, October 20, 2013 in his home. Graham was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer mid August and moved to in home hospice mid October. Though the disease was aggressive and unforgiving, Graham was with his wife and children at the time of his passing leaving peacefully and with grace.
Born July 27, 1963 in Ontario Canada, Graham has resided in the US since childhood becoming a US citizen in 1993 holding dual citizenships.
Graham’s most treasured gift was his wife Ramona Aloia-Rutherford of 25 years and his children Anthony 22 years old and Mercedes 20 years old, all who reside together in Pottstown. He was an active ice hockey coach for several years for the Pottstown Penguins and Perk Valley, where both his children played. He thoroughly enjoyed the sport ice hockey along with gardening and the culinary arts.
Graham spent his career in the restaurant field; starting out as a dishwasher in his early teens, moving to prep, line cook, and sous chef all leading to executive chef. Establishments include the William Penn Inn, Philadelphia Aviation Country Club, co-proprietor of Fantinis’ Ridge Road Hotel and Café 663. His most recent employer was the Bella Vista Country Club where he held the position of banquet chef.
When not in a rink or kitchen, Graham can be found in his man cave shed tinkering with tools and watching countless episodes of NCIS. He was the “go to” guy in the neighborhood where he would readily lend his handy man repair skills. Winter being his most favorite season, it wouldn’t be uncommon that when it snowed he was up in the wee hours of the morning shoveling your driveway for fun.
Graham is survived by his wife and children noted above along with his mother Sheila Miller Rutherford Dijkhuizen, older brother Mark Rutherford and younger sister Susan Rutherford Vinson.
At Graham’s request he was cremated with no services to be held. Because of the insidious disease that claimed his life, the family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations in Graham’s name be made to: http://www.pancreatic.org.
