East Greenville Man Charged in Assault on Pregnant Woman
Written by Kelly Chandler, Staff Writer
2013-08-21

A 30-year-old East Greenville man is behind bars this week after Upper Perk Police said he assaulted a pregnant roommate, causing extensive injuries.

Damian Yost, of the 600 block of Hamilton Road, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in connection with an Aug. 16 incident at the home he shared with the woman and another roommate.

Yost was arraigned by District Judge Walter Gadzicki Jr. of Limerick on Tuesday, who set bail at $7,000, 10 percent.  He was remanded to Montgomery County Jail after being unable to post bail.

According to court documents, around midnight Aug. 16 the woman was involved in an argument about rent with the male owner of the East Greenville home.  Police said Yost, whom the woman only knew by his first name, got involved in the argument and started yelling at her, eventually punching her in the face with a closed fist.

Police said the woman was taken to Grand View Hospital for treatment of her injuries.  According to reports, the assault broke the woman’s jaw in three places and knocked out several teeth.  Doctors had to wire her jaw shut, police said.

Authorities said the woman’s boyfriend witnessed part of the incident and told police he saw Yost hit her.  The man said Yost then told the woman, who had fallen on the floor, that she shouldn’t have come into his room, according to the criminal complaint.

Police arrested Yost on Monday.  He is scheduled to appear in Red Hill District Court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 12 at 3:15 p.m. in front of Judge Catherine Hummel-Fried.
