Pair to Face Charges in East Greenville Assault
Written by Bradley Schlegel, Staff Writer
2020-02-12

At least two individuals involved in the Feb. 1 assault of a male teenager in East Greenville will face charges, according to Randy Morris, chief of the borough's police department. On Wednesday morning, he confirmed that a thorough investigation into the incident has been completed.

However, Morris declined to say when the charges would be filed. During a phone conversation he claimed a just cause for his declination, citing the legal process.

Earlier this month, Mayor Keith Gerhart relayed information provided by the police chief that the juvenile was beaten unconscious by four males in the area of 4th and Railroad streets after approaching the victim and his friend. On Wednesday, Morris described the confrontation as not random.

"All the involved parties know each other," the chief said.

A passerby driving in the area witnessed the attack and sounded his car horn and the juvenile attackers ran off, according to an email message received from Gerhart. His statement claims that despite previous reports, cell phone video of the attack does not exist.

According to Morris, the boy – who was transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia – suffered a severe concussion, a laceration to an ear that required surgery and multiple bruises to his upper body.

The victim, who was released from the hospital two days after the incident, continues to recover at home, Morris said.

A GoFundMe page established by his local scout troop, intended to help his family pay for the costs of medical bills incurred during the incident, has raised $3,007.
