Alexis McGloin, the Upper Perkiomen School District Superintendent, is leaving the job at the end of the current school year. McGloin won't seek renewal of her contract, which expires June 30, 2019.
In an email received Wednesday afternoon, McGloin stated that she wanted to allow the district ample time to find a new superintendent.
"My intent is to remain in the district through the end of my contract and assist in the transition to a new superintendent," McGloin wrote in a Nov. 27 email message to district staff.
"We would like to thank Dr. McGloin for her service to the district," board Vice President Mike Elliot said Tuesday afternoon.
The school board learned of McGloin's decision one month ago, according to member Melanie Cunningham. She said they discussed the superintendent's contract during an executive session at the end of October.
"I am very proud of the work we completed during my time in the district and am pleased to say that I work with a talented, caring staff," McGloin wrote to district staff.
Appointed by the board on Nov. 13, 2014, McGloin replaced acting superintendent Timothy Kirby. She started working in the position Jan. 20, 2015.
The board selected McGloin, who previously worked at the assistant superintendent of the PennDelco School District in Delaware County. She began her career as a chemistry teacher and later served as an elementary school principal in the Scranton and Penn Delco school districts.
McGloin and two other finalists answered questions from board members during a community forum in October of 2014.
School board officials hope to have a successor in place by June 30, 2019, according to Member Raeann Hofkin.
