Written by Bradley Schlegel, Staff Writer

Robert Guzman allowed no earned runs over seven innings for Perkiomen against the top team in the Bux-Mont League on Sunday night. However, it wasn't

enough for the team to post a victory.

Souderton took advantage of three errors by the host Indians to post a 5-2 victory in extra innings. Three runs scored on a misplayed fly ball to left field by Dan Knechel off Justin Wornham with two outs on the top of the eighth inning snapped a 2-2 tie. Post 234 scored five unearned runs.

Manager Mike Fitzgerald described the loss as a gut punch. He was hoping Post 184 could knock off the league's first-place team while tightening its grip on third place in the standings.  "We should have won 2-0," Fitzgerald said.

In the top of the eighth, Wornham recorded the initial two outs before he loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batsman. Knechel's fly ball to left then cleared the bases.  "Justin was just overthrowing," Fitzgerald said.

Guzman allowed just five hits and two walks while registering five strikeouts over seven innings. The manager called it his third high-quality outing in his last four starts.

"Robert has shown he is a dependable pitcher," Fitzgerald said. "We're going to need him in the playoffs."

The Indians opened the scoring in the first inning. Wornham led off the game with a hit, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on a single by Charlie Haag and stole home on the back end of a double steal with Haag.

Consecutive infield errors in the third inning led to a pair of Souderton runs. Zack Brown delivered an RBI single, and Luke Taylor added a sacrifice fly to put the team ahead 2-1.

David Kilroy's RBI-double in the bottom of the sixth inning forced a 2-2 tie. The team stranded runners on the first and third base in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Fitzgerald expressed confidence that his team would respond with enthusiasm for its final three league game against Quakertown (Friday), at Nor-Gwyn (Saturday) and at Lansdale (Monday).  "We've got two hard practices to prepare for our next three games," he said. "None of our guys are happy with this outcome. It's a real gut check."

On Wednesday, June 27, the Indians surrendered right runs in the third inning against Hatfield and lost 10-1. Post 933 delivered eight hits in the inning off Guzman.

Lance Templeton delivered two of the five hits for Post 184. Tim Landis drove in the team's only run in the fourth inning.

Two days later, the team responded with a 6-2 home victory over Doylestown. Trey Livingstone overcame a shaky first inning to go the distance earn the mound win. He allowed just five hits and one walk while fanning seven.

Perkiomen delivered all its offense in the bottom of the first against Danny Loving on just one hit and six walks. Wornham's two-run double highlighted the rally.

Guzman, David Kilroy and Templeton each drove in a run. Ryan Rossiter registered two of the team's four hits.

Behind the strong pitching of Hunter Gooch, the Indians battled Quakertown to a 1-1 tie though 5 1/2 innings on Saturday, June 30. But Post 242 rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth, and cruised to a 7-1 victory.

Jake Reed delivered a two-run double off Gooch, who was charged with four runs on 10 hits. A two-run single by John Paul off Wornham in relief capped the outburst.

Landis drove in Perkiomen's only run, in the second inning.
