American Legion Perkiomen Post 184 and Joint Veterans Council of the Upper Perkiomen Valley announced that Memorial Day Services and Parade will take place on Monday, May 28.
To begin, there will be a 9 a.m. service at the Red Hill Veterans Memorial, Main Street, Red Hill.
At 9:30 a.m., the Parade will form at the Upper Perkiomen Middle School parking lot, East Greenville.
At 10 a.m. the parade will proceed on Fifth Street to Main Street, then south on Main Street to Third Street in Pennsburg. The procession will then turn east on Third Street to St. Mark's Cemetery where a Service and Honors will follow.
Marchers in the parade include members and Ladies Auxiliaries of American Legion Post 184, Post 184 Legion Riders Detachment, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5954, Tri-Borough Detachment 568 of the Marine Corps League, Boy and Girl Scouts, Frontier Girl Scouts, Veterans and Civic Organizations and the "Riderless Horse" symbol of our fallen comrades.
Any veterans, police, and fire fighters are welcome to join the parade. There will be sedans and a horse drawn wagon available to veterans who are not able to march.
Speaking at the Service is Master Sergeant Dwayne Bowman, United States Air Force, Retired. Musical performances will be by the Upper Perkiomen High School Band and the Red Hill band.
Special guests include family members of Vietnam Veteran Senior Chief Petty Officer Hospital Corpsman James D. Miller, Company Corpsman "D" Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines 1966-1967. Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal with "V" Device for Valor.
Three volleys will be fired over the grave of Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer James D. Miller.
While the grave is selected to locate the firing party, the salute honors all veterans.
Following the ceremony, participants are invited for refreshments at American Legion Post 184, 744 Gravel Pike (SR 29), East Greenville.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mark's Church Social Hall, 81 Main St., Pennsburg.
