Arlington R. “Art” Shup
2017-12-27

Arlington R. "Art" Shup, 97, of Milford Square, passed away on December 25, 2017.  He was the beloved husband of the late Beatrice (Esten) Shup, who died in 2001.  Art was the son of the late Robert C. and Marguerite (Cressman) Shup, and lived with his grandparents, the late Allen W. and Mary (Yerger) Shup, during his adolescent years.

He was a graduate of Quakertown High School, Class of 1938, and a United States Army veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Shup was very active in community affairs.  He was one of the original members of the Red Hill Water Authority; served on the Red Hill Borough Council; founded the Red Hill Recycling Program, and served as the Red Hill Tax Collector. Art's generous donation of a 1946 International fire truck was instrumental in the formation of the Endless Winds Fire Company in Shunk, PA where he and his wife owned a vacation home.

He was the owner of the A.R. Shup Insurance Agency for more than 40 years.  Prior to that, "Reds" was the Route Foreman for Woodson Dairy in Red Hill for 27 years.

Arlington is survived by his son, Ronald R. Shup (Carolyn) of Red Hill; two daughters, Sandra L. Bergey (Kermit), of Red Hill, and Karen L. Frank (Michael), of Boyertown; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Monaghan Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Red Hill, PA 18076.  A service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home.  Interment will be in Christ Union Cemetery in Trumbauersville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the American Heart Association, 1617 JFK Blvd., Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103.   Online condolences: www.monaghanfuneralhome.com
